Aron Eisenberg, born January 6, 1969, in Los Angeles, California, was an
American actor best known for portraying Nog, the first Ferengi to join
Starfleet, in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He also appeared in Star Trek: Voyager
and was a podcaster and photographer.
Eisenberg
was born with only one partially functioning kidney, which limited his growth.
He underwent a kidney transplant at age 14 and later studied theater at Moorpark
College in California. His early career included roles in Tales from the Crypt,
The Wonder Years, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, and General Hospital. He also
appeared in films such as The Liars' Club, Puppet Master III, and The Horror
Show.
In 1993, Eisenberg was cast as Nog, the
nephew of Quark, in Deep Space Nine. His character evolved from a mischievous
Ferengi to a Starfleet officer, making him one of the most compelling arcs in
the series. He also played Kar, a Kazon, in Star Trek: Voyager (Initiations,
1995). Outside of acting, he hosted and produced the Star Trek-themed podcast
The 7th Rule.
Eisenberg was married to Malíssa
Longo, and they had two children. He worked as a professional photographer,
opening his own gallery before 2013. In 2015, he was diagnosed with kidney
failure again and received a second transplant in December 2015. He passed away
on September 21, 2019, at age 50. In tribute, Star Trek: Discovery honored him
with the USS Nog, an Eisenberg-class starship.
